| Description | |||
| "What we have here is a 1930-something 12.5' Herreshoff. If you don t know what that is you are probably not here intentionally, so here's what you are looking at. Known variously as a Bull's Eye, Buzzard's Bay 12.5 footer, Buzzards Bay Boy Boat, or a Doughdish, Nathaniel Green Herreshoff designed and built the first twenty of these small and popular one-design sport sailers between 30 October and 14 November 1914 (hulls 744-762.) Capable of seating several people, they measured only 12.5 feet at the waterline and originally sold for $420 each. Many more were built over the years and production of the boat ceased in about 1939. The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of Bristol, RI, designed and built boats, sail and engine-powered yachts, America's Cup racers, and military vessels from 1878 to 1945. This particular boat has the Hull ID #1374 and is a project boat for someone interested restoring classic boats. As you can see from the photos the next owner will need time, resources, and probably a very understanding wife to complete this project. I'm told that everything you need to complete this boat is there. Fully restored 12.5s sell in the $25,000-30,000 range. If there is a project boat in your future call now to see for yourself this 12.5 Herreshoff Doughdish." |
