Nautical Terms and Phrases
The letters of the alphabet are listed with their corresponding phonetic alphabet term. The phonetic alphabet is used when spelling terms over a radio so that the listener does not confuse one letter for another. The terms will show up below the list of letters when you click a letter.

H - Hotel	U - Uniform
I - India	V - Victor
J - Juliet	W - Whiskey
K - Kilo	X - X-Ray

Nautical	Having to do with boats, ships or sailing.
Nautical Mile	One minute of latitude; approximately 6076 feet - about 1/8 longer than the statute mile of 5280 feet.
Navigation	The art and science of conducting a boat safely from one point to another.
Navigation Rules	The regulations governing the movement of vessels in relation to each other, generally called steering and sailing rules.
Net Tonnage	The volume of cargo a ship could carry, equal to gross tonnage minus the crew cabins, storerooms and machinery spaces. One ton equals 100 cubic feet.
NOAA	National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, keeper of nautical charts and the weather (US).
Nock	The forward upper end of a sail that sets with a boom.
Northeaster	A stormy wind with waves from the northeast. Also spelled nor'easter.
